Bringing Back the Blogging Boom: Podcast Pitches, a Weird Moment Between Denzel Washington and Nicole Kidman, Doja Cat's Lives, and a Parasocial Disclaimer
What a virtual life I've been leading this weekend!
I’m keenly aware that I haven’t been captivating you all as much lately; I’ve been losing subscribers. First, please don’t forget that The Kardashians will be back before we know it, and then I’ll be back to recapping here! Can I entice you with the reminder that Pete appears to be featured in this coming season? I’m dreading it ALL! But in a fun way!
Until then, I’m trying to shift myself into the blogging mindset I mentioned in a recent post, because I’m starting to sincerely believe there’s value in meta-processing the experience of being a Person On the Internet as part of my social media oeuvre.
(Particularly because so much of what I write about is how meta this whole landscape is.)
I could share my zany adventures of trying to play catch up with MIA editors — the much-hyped Kardashians-Disney piece you’ve been hearing about for months now continues to hang in the balance, though I’m choosing to trust that I’ll have word soon — or the behind-the-scenes process of my sister and me locking in with a podcast agent and shopping Between Two Salads around.
The tough thing about writing as a preferred medium is that it takes so much longer. This is my favorite thing to do, but every post takes me at least 4-6 hours. And the speed limit of the Internet is so much higher than that! Everything is zooming right past me! The social media feeds wait for no one! Thus, I’m losing people.
Here are a few updates:
1. I have a piece coming out tomorrow, Monday, about Kylie’s private jet drama.
I really enjoyed working with my editor for the piece, Kuba Shand-Baptiste. She discovered and commissioned me with a clear idea of the angle she wanted me to take, and, fortunately, it aligned with my perspective on the situation. We had to lop off the final section of the piece due to space considerations — it’s meant to read as a brisk little op-ed — but that section featured a brilliant tequila historian/writer who weighed in on the Kendall 818 drama and I don’t want you to miss it. I’m going to ask the writer tomorrow if I can share that section here instead. See? I come through with rare content for my subs!
2. I watched the movie The Forgiven last night, mostly for Caleb Landry Jones, because I just love watching that guy act. Let it be known: he needs to play Joker next.
