Kardashians Episode 7 Recap
In a post-SNL and Baby Bar reality, this episode simultaneously trolls us and insists on Kim's new sense of agency
As always, I recommend starting with this week’s Vogue recap to prepare for the coming deep dive. Have you read it? No prob, I’ll wait. Okay, have you read it now? Cool. Let’s get into it!
1. Following an existentially heavy episode, we’re back to full glam indulgence with BTS of the photo shoot for The Kardashians’ promotional campaign.
Let’s be real: this kind of content is the Kardashian comfort zone. Makeup, photography, and a meta-narrative double whammy: we’re seeing the BTS of photos that were ubiquitous online in the promotion of the very show we’re now watching
2. Kim gives us a little Balenciaga exposition…
3. Kim names it a “walking campaign.” She’s telling us things we already know!!!! But it’s somehow satisfying to hear it from her?
4. Kim ever so briefly gives Kanye the credit due for his facilitation of her relationship with Demna (creative director of Balenciaga), but it’s not a convenient detail (this episode is about Kim’s post-SNL independence, after all) so she moves on pretty quickly.
In fact, she’s kind of acting as though the conception of the formal Balenciaga partnership occurred after The Met???
There is obviously so much more to the story behind this deal. Kim wasn’t just casually enjoying Balenciaga over the entirety of her SNL weekend and then, after The Met, she and Demna had the wild idea to work together lol.
Yet again, we’re seeing rewritten history for the sake of the show and the sake of the story and the sake of the brand. Kardashian comfort zone :)
5. Omg, I’m also realizing - When did the Donda events happen amid all of this anyway? Are we just going to ignore that Donda happened? (in the similar vein of Astroworld’s erasure, but I really still can’t believe anyone is surprised by that one)
