My Own Little "Paris" Episode
Months later, I'm ready to share my account of a scary incident. I wrote this not long after it happened so forgive the lack of polish!
NOTE: I wrote this not long after the Thing happened. I haven’t been sure whether to post it. Especially considering all the drama that had gone down with media people a few months before the Thing, and the fact that exactly one month after the Thing, I was hospitalized for several days by a mysterious and excruciating liver event that I now know was caused by Daily Harvest. It just seemed like a lot of bummer vibes to put out there!!!! The good news is, I’m feeling much better lately, so I’m finally sharing this to update you (and also because I don’t want hours of writing to go to waste lol).
Something traumatic happened to me and my sister a few weeks ago, and as a result I think I am having my first real parasocial feeling about Kim. I promise I’ll do my best to refrain from referring to her as “Kimmy” in future posts!
(isn’t that kinda the tell-tale sign that a pop culture content creator feels like they know her? Once the “Kimmy” comes out?)
(yes, I called Kendall “Kenny” in a recent recap, but it was mostly because I was trying to be cute for Vogue)
I covered the backstory best in an Instagram caption:
My sister and I were out celebrating my new column and ended up having the happiest time. Talking while walking around downtown, watching all the adorable Friday night revelers on the sidewalks, stopping into any spots that intrigued us.
We knew this was our plan — to stroll and watch the night unfold — so we wore the right shoes. Does a better feeling exist than a spring night in New York City, walking without anywhere to be, and having an epic, endless conversation with your best friend?
Unfortunately, at around midnight, on a desolate street in the East Village, we had a Thing happen. It was as if out of a nightmare, but it was real. We narrowly escaped physical harm.
The “Paris” episode of KUWTK’s Season 13, of course, reconstructed the events of Kim’s brutal 2016 robbery in her hotel room during Paris Fashion Week. Famously — as author of Kardashian Kolloquium, known to be working my way through the show chronologically — I took forever to get around to watching it. My paralysis was an inside joke with my audience: I knew there would be simply too much to analyze, and that froze me.
When I finally bit the bullet, I learned I was right: Season 13 Episode 1 was one of the most impeccable stories the Kardashians ever told.
