As I wrote this week for Vogue, this episode was “seemingly intended to show us the varied ways each sister relates to partying—further characterizing them (and their brands) in the process.” But Marie and I mostly fixated on the (yet again) confrontation of existential doom we noticed at the beginning of the episode with all the talk of ashes, bones, and burial sites. All the while, our own sense of existential despair ticked away — we were keenly aware that we were cutting our airport departure time reallyyyy close.

(it was a nightmare at the airport lol we got there 25 minutes before the flight was going to take off, a group of European tourists got mad when we asked to cut the security line, I was so ashamed to be that person but we had to because this trip is for a family funeral, then we got through security and the GATE WAS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TERMINAL. I honestly don’t know how we made it. Marie is really fit and a great runner. I don’t actually get off my couch a lot.

Yet

we ran like the wind. I was wearing cowboy boots :( they were about to close the door when we arrived. The woman really showed us mercy by letting us on. It was a miracle. Actually, who am I kidding, I DO know how we made it.

My high school did this thing called “May program” where you simulated college for a month by taking “elective” classes. I remember taking one about Hitchcock taught by our English teacher and it was super cool and revelatory. He helped us understand why The Birds was so scary — there was no music in the film. Another “course” was about documentary film, I forgot who taught that one, but we watched the Woodstock documentary and Rumble in the Jungle.

Our older white male Spanish teacher offered a women’s studies class, so I took that too because, as a young woman, I knew I was interested in learning much more about the history of feminism and knew I hoped to do that eventually in college. His lessons were fucking wild though lol. They were more like monologues opining his personal philosophies about the fairer sex. One was about how women could control time. He said
